Because we must not cheat
You’re so quiet in a little corner, waiting for someone to pass by and slaughter him. Suddenly a ninja-like rival appears and shoots you to death without you being able to say this is my mouth. How the hell did he know where he was hiding?
On 8-bit computers, POKES turned a whole generation into cheaters in the 80s: these commands allowed access to special memory regions that, for example, made it possible to get infinite lives in a game.
Even cartridges appeared – the undersigned had one for his C64, let’s see what’s going to happen – that allowed access to a special mode in which one could enter those POKEs to kill that final enemy or pass that stage that otherwise seemed impossible to overcome.
Of course, all those techniques have been passed down from generation to generation of players. Cheating is in our nature, it seems, and today the techniques for accomplishing it have become especially flashy.
This has turned the industry into a furious cat-and-mouse race in which cat and mouse are constantly chasing each other. Cheats are followed by anti-cheat mechanisms that fight to prevent cheating players from polluting the servers and causing other players to leave the game totally tired of the situation.
It is bad to cheat
If your students feel that the assignment you give them is too tedious, boring or doesn’t go deep into the subject they are learning, and even if it is too complex, they will feel it’s not worth doing. If the test is just one more of the many they submit, they will feel it is not relevant. Therefore, it is very important that the assignment has relevance, the activities are interesting, and the tests are periodic.
It has been shown that if the student discovers that it is socially acceptable to cheat, then he or she will tend to do it more naturally. This implies social pressure and a changing idea of what is good and what is not. To work on this, it is good to integrate them and encourage them at the moment of creating the rules, since this way they will be more aware of the rules, their reasons and it will be more feasible for them to comply with them. Organize a regulation for your classroom in which they participate, discuss each rule, let them discover why it is important to comply with those rules. You can also let them know why a homework assignment or test is necessary, that doing homework is not about fulfilling a requirement, but about reviewing and practicing the subject, if they have this in mind they will tend to value their activities more.
What does cheating mean?
Cheating refers to an immoral way of achieving an objective. It is generally used to refer to the breaking of rules to gain an advantage in a competitive situation. The rules broken may be explicit or part of an unwritten code of conduct based on morals, ethics or custom, so the identification of an act as cheating is subjective.
Sport is governed by both explicit rules and customs regarding permitted and prohibited acts in and out of competition. Prohibited acts typically include performance enhancing drug use (known as “doping”), wearing non-compliant equipment or tampering with equipment during play, as well as deliberate harassment or injury to competitors.
Examples of alleged cheating in high-level competition include Ben Johnson’s disqualification after the 100 meters at the 1988 Olympics, and confessions of steroid use by former professional baseball players after they had retired, such as Jose Canseco and Ken Caminiti.

Video game cheats are methods used by video game players to create or gain an advantage over others in a video game. The mechanisms for gaining such advantages can be through game intervention or through specialized hardware. They cause other players to be disadvantaged by their use.
Due to the fact that their use produces an imbalance among players, cheats are negatively catalogued, especially in online games, where the detection of the use of this type of cheats produces that those suspected of using these advantages are blocked or expelled from games and servers. Cheating can be applied to video games, for example, by using code injection in dynamic link, hook or Ring 0 libraries.
